How scoring works in Azul

  1. During the game (wall-tiling phase): each tile you place scores 1 point if it has no adjacent tiles; otherwise count the tiles linked to it horizontally and vertically (including itself) and score both directions.
  2. Floor line: tiles on the floor line cost −1, −1, −2, −2, −2, −3, −3 points each round. Your score can never go below 0.
  3. The game ends after the round in which at least one player completes a horizontal row of 5 tiles.
  4. End-game bonus: +2 points for each complete horizontal row.
  5. End-game bonus: +7 points for each complete vertical column.
  6. End-game bonus: +10 points for each colour of which you placed all 5 tiles.
  7. Highest score wins. Ties go to the player with more complete horizontal rows.

Good to know

  • Because tile-placement points depend on the order tiles were placed, this calculator uses your score-track position for in-game points and only automates the end-game bonuses.
  • The wall grid uses the standard coloured player board (blue, yellow, red, black, white – each row shifted one step). Playing the grey side? Just tap the cells you filled; the bonus maths is identical.

Frequently asked questions

How is Azul scored at the end of the game?

Add end-game bonuses to your score-track total: +2 per complete horizontal row, +7 per complete vertical column and +10 per colour with all 5 tiles on your wall.

How many points is a column in Azul?

A complete vertical column of 5 tiles is worth 7 bonus points at the end of the game. A complete horizontal row is worth 2, and a full colour set is worth 10.

Can your Azul score go negative?

No. Floor-line penalties can never take you below 0 on the score track. This calculator caps the track score at 0 before adding bonuses.

Who wins a tie in Azul?

The tied player with the most complete horizontal rows wins. If that is also equal, the victory is shared.
