How scoring works in Lost Cities

  1. An expedition with no played cards scores 0. Once started, add its number cards and subtract the 20-point expedition cost.
  2. Multiply that result by 2, 3 or 4 when the expedition contains 1, 2 or 3 wager cards. A negative result is multiplied too.
  3. An expedition containing at least eight cards earns a 20-point bonus after the wager-card multiplier is applied.
  4. Add all expedition scores for the round. Play three rounds and add the round totals to determine the match winner.

Good to know

  • This page calculates one round at a time. Record each round total in the site’s Score Tracker, then choose New round here to keep player names and clear the expeditions.
  • In the six-expedition edition, use the board’s base-game side and remove the 12 purple cards for the five-expedition game; use the long-game side and all 72 cards for the six-expedition variant.

Frequently asked questions

How do you score an expedition in Lost Cities?

For a started expedition, add the number cards and subtract 20. Multiply by one plus the number of wager cards, then add 20 if the expedition has at least eight total cards.

Can an expedition score negative points?

Yes. Any started expedition whose number cards total less than 20 is negative before bonuses, and wager cards multiply that loss.

Do wager cards count toward the eight-card bonus?

Yes. Count every card in that expedition, including wager cards. Eight or more total cards earn the 20-point bonus.
